Her journey into mental health:
Even as a child, she was fascinated by the human mind, body language and behaviour. She often wondered to herself “How do two different people react so differently to the same situation?” In her medical college, she was a distinction holder and chose MD in Psychiatry despite many warning her that the scenario of mental health isn’t conducive in India. She decided to begin where a difference needed to be made.
Academic journey:
In 2013, she won the Torrent Young Psychiatrists Award and graduated top of the class during her MD in medical school. With experience in both government and private setups, including rehabilitation centres, she chose to practice with Adults who struggled with their mental health. Her expertise is in Millennial issues around depression, anxiety, stress, OCD, addiction (behavioural and substance) & relationship issues.
Beyond work:
In order to make mental health more relatable, Dr Era began using social media (insert handle link direct here) from early on to create awareness. As a wellness expert, she actively writes a column for the leading newspaper Millennium Post (insert link for blog) every Sunday. Other leading dailies and newspapers have covered her expert opinion on a wide range of mental health issues. These include Times of India, Hindustan Times, Vice, Vogue India, DNA, Deccan Chronicle, Telegraph, Cosmopolitan and more.
As a young millennial doctor who is relatable, she connects with the masses through her fun yet fact-based approach to stamping out the stigma of mental health. She has been featured on Brut India regarding the Drug menace and recently launcher her first podcast with 93.5 Red FM podcast approaching the drug issues in our country (https://linktr.ee/dopeshopedrugs)
